The CTAP Level 2 Technology Integration Academy is open to public-school certificated K-12 classroom teachers, certificated non-classroom teachers and school administrators. If you are not sure if your position qualifies you to participate, please email Nancy Moore at moore_nancy@lacoe.edu or call 562-401-5584.
The Integration Academy is designed for participants who are at least somewhat comfortable using technology for their own personal proficiency and now want to take their skills to the next level. Participants will also sharpen their Information Literacy skills. Over the five days of the academy, participants will build a standards-based curricular unit with technology-enhanced learning experiences that will challenge and motivate their students.
On Day 1, participants begin work on their unit plan by identifying the state standards, essential questions and big ideas to be addressed. They will also begin planning two technology-rich student learning experiences for this unit. Participants will also explore ways to use spreadsheets to analyze student progress toward meeting the unit standards.
Day 2 is all Web all day. We begin with the Information Literacy skills of finding, organizing and evaluating Web resources. Participants will build a data base of valuable resources to support their curricular unit. Participants then create their own Web page with links to these resources. Participants will post the page to the Web and by the end of Day 2, everyone will have their own Web page online.
Day 3 is multimedia day. Participants will work in groups to research, storyboard, and script a short curricular-based video. They will then film and edit the video. Everyone will have the opportunity to have hands-on experience in each phase of digital video production. Watching the finished videos is the highlight of Day 3. Everyone is a star.
On Day 4 the spotlight will be on using desktop publishing products such as brochures, newsletters and posters as student projects to demonstrate learning in a content area. Participants will create an online assessment rubric for this project. We will look at the critical issue of student safety in cyberspace and explore the iSafe program.
On Day 5 participants complete their unit by designing a presentation project that incorporates multimedia, including digital video, and makes use of advanced PowerPoint features. Participants will post their finished presentation online. Day 5 includes individual work time for participants to complete every component of their unit plan. We will end the day with an Open House when participants share the units they've built.
