If you were not on the campus of CSULA Friday, November 8th attending the 21st Century Learners Symposium (21CLS), then you missed a great learning opportunity. This years’ participant experience was enhanced through the use of an application that allowed attendees to view the schedule of events for the day and learn more about the presenters. This year also marked the introduction of a 21st Century Learners Symposium group, hosted by Edmodo, allowed you to find others attending the same breakout sessions, connect, access event materials, and talk about big ideas that came out of the day.

After checking in, attendees were able to enjoy a lovely continental breakfast and received a warm welcome from event sponsors in the exhibit area. Exhibitors shared the latest advances in technologies for the classroom with featured workshops and product demonstrations.

This year the symposium focused on blended learning in support of Common Core State Standards, as well as online learning and assessments, and mobile technology.

The day began with an invitation-only Leadership Breakfast with Julie Evans, CEO, Project Tomorrow, as speaker. Ms. Evans challenged district superintendents and technology leaders to consider the “ Top Ten Things Everyone Should Know about Students and Digital Learning".

The Keynote Speaker was Ramsey Musallam, Educator, and host of the internet TV show the Infinite Thinking Machine. Ramsey offered a practical strategy to help teachers push their teaching to new and exciting levels by finding their classroom mission and ignite the curiosity of their students.

The Closing Session was dedicated to completing an online feedback and evaluation tool and selecting winners of the eleven incredible door prizes.

The 21st Century Learners Symposium is one of many professional development opportunities offered by Instructional Technology Outreach, a department of the Technology Services division at the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
