Transitioning to California State Standards With Instructional Coaches

– A Deeper Dive

(Click Here For Registration and Payment)

The clinic will be lead by consultants from Curriculum and Instructional Services and Instructional Technology Outreach.  It is designed around five Coaching Standards:

  • Distinguished Teaching – the coach is a distinguished teacher who possesses and uses extensive knowledge about assessment, standards, curriculum, content and pedagogy.
  • Building Relationships – The coach develops rapport and builds trusting relationship with teachers for reflective conversations around teaching practices and instruction.
  • Coaching for Quality Instruction – The coach collaborates and reflects with teachers about planning, teaching, assessing and re-teaching.
  • Responsibility for Goals – The coach is responsible for assisting teachers and schools in meeting goals.
  • Professionalism – The coach seeks to improve professional knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities and exhibits professional behavior.

This four-day blended (face to face and online) clinic is designed to provide participants with the following knowledge, skills, and resources:

·      A deep understanding of the role of the instructional coach and its relationship to transitioning to Common Core State Standards and assessments;

·         Techniques to lead a group of instructional coaches through coaching practices aligned to coaching standards;

·         Online Web 2.0 tools to support site and district Common Core instructional initiatives; and

·         Use of the Instructional Rounds practice in support of classroom walk through protocols.

Schools and districts are encouraged to send teams of instructional coaches and administrators who supervise coaches.  The clinic uses a unique mix of face-to face interaction, collaborative time, coaching practice and site visitations to practice authentic coaching scenarios.

Outcomes for the four-day clinic include:

  • Gain a deep understanding of the role of the instructional coach and its relationship to student achievement.
  • Lead a group of instructional coaches through a process of “foundational work” in coaching practices aligned to the five coaching standards and practiced in an authentic experience.
  • Practice gathering data using on-line data collection tools to support site instructional improvement initiative

The Cost of the workshop is $400.00 per individual (includes materials, morning refreshments and lunch each day of training)
Note: Materials and refreshments are ordered based on anticipated attendance.  Districts will be billed for "no shows."
